By Bud Larsen Club Historian The Rod Bender’s featured car for the month of August is truly a heavy iron set of wheels, befitting of it’s owner, the Rod Bender’s Club President Don James. Don and Judith James’s 1972 Chevrolet Chevelle SS features a Muncie transmission married to a 454 cammed engine and headers to round out the package. This power to spare set of wheels proudly leads the pack on our numerous cruise outing, and … only a fool would challenge it for road space. Don found this car in North Carolina in 2000 while on vacation, and it was the beginning of a long-term love affair. The TLC applied to their Chevelle SS is obvious and its stunning wax job always draws a crowed when on the road, or in static display mode. Nothing, no nothing, beats the rumble of a 454 as it jumps from first to Second … and is gone! |
