Engines at Newport

The Rod Benders: Don James., Ron Koubek, Bob Hokanson and Tim Sebers arrive at Kelly's on the morning of March 15th
to attend an engine dynamics seminar sponsored by the Asphalt Angels Car Club of Priest River

We order coffee and while we wait, Tim, Ron and Bob
begin to compile a list of some engine-questions and Don
captures the moment in pixels.

Larry Van Unen is the engine guru and is explaining an adjustment technique to Bates Coffield and Bob and others outside the frame of view.
Larry is the owner of Van Unen Racing and has developed engines of many sizes, mostly Chevys and Hemis. If you have a question about a high performance alcohol fuel drag racing engine, call Larry at 208.448.0235

Near the end of this engine seminar, Larry brings out a rod and piston from some really big iron. He mentions that top fuel racers like John Force and others buy these custom built rods in quantities of 3000 and up to have enough to get through one racing season.
We leave with more knowledge and maybe more questions than when we arrived.
Our thanks to the Asphalt Angels for inviting us to Kelly's restaurant to share lunch and soak up some of the engine knowledge presented by Larry Unen
